Merlangius merlangus
Whiting has its range in the Atlantic from Gibraltar to the Barents Sea. It is found catch this fish along the coast, but most commonly north to Stad.
The whiting is a demersal fish that lives on sandy and muddy bottoms at depths from 10-150 metres, often moving into shallow water during the dark nights. Whiting is light in colour with a blackish mark by the pectoral fin. It has a pointed nose and the adults do not have whispers. Their back is brown, but the fish is mostly silvery with a white belly.
It can reach lengths up to 55 cm.Breeding takes place from January until July, with the greatest activity in March-April, it is at this time they gather together in large schools.
