Pollachius virens
They belong to the same family as cod. They are both a bottom fish and pelagic species. Here in Norway they are common along the entire coast and are caught by sports fishermen on bait, lure and with nets. They are known for their large schools. Fish of similar size can be caught by the" bag load" if you are lucky enough to stumble across one of these hungry schools. Fish over 120cm long can be caught here. Their torpedo shape enables them to swim at great speeds. This also means they are a fantastic fighting fish. The best baits are herring, sardines and the host of small fish found with in waters.
