Salvelinus alpinus
Char can grow up to 12 kilos but fish around 2 kilo are said to be big. Char
are fished from the is in the winter but is seldom they are over 300 grams.
They breed from September through to November. As with their other family
member, they spawn in gravel beds and can run rivers given the correct
conditions. Char can be fished over the entire country from low land lakes
to mountains over 1000 meters. In Northern Norway they live in shallower
lake that are cold all year and low in nutrients. In Southern Norway they
need large deep lakes where they can find shelter in summer months
